7 Questions to Ask a Listing Agent in Arlington

What should I ask a listing agent before I hire one in Arlington?
Ask how they would price your home, how they would get it ready, how they will market it, how often you will hear from them, and what it will cost you. A good agent answers in plain words and shows you proof.

The Mike Webb Team (Mike and Claudia Webb, RE/MAX Allegiance) helps homeowners in Arlington, Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC get their homes ready to sell and sold.

Hiring a listing agent is a big choice. Meet more than one if you like, and ask each one the same seven questions, so you can compare the answers side by side.

1. How would you price my home, and why?

Look for an answer built on real sales near you, the homes you will compete with right now, and what buyers are doing this season. A number with no reasons behind it is a guess.

Ask what happens if the first weeks are quiet. A good agent has a plan before the sign goes up. To learn more, read How to Price Your Arlington Home to Sell.

2. What would you do to get my home ready, and who pays for it?

Some agents hand you a to-do list. Ask who does the work, who hires the painters and cleaners, and who pays.

Our answer: every seller gets The White Glove Home Sale Method at no additional cost, whatever the price or type of home. That can include painting, repairs, physical staging, deep cleaning, carpet and window cleaning, caulking, power washing, landscaping, and removing items you do not want to move. Strategy comes before spending, so we improve what matters and skip what does not. Read how it works in The White Glove Home Sale Method in Arlington VA.

3. How will you market my home?

Ask for the full list, not a general promise. Our listings get professional photos, a 3D tour and floor plans, a website for each home, the MLS with the major home search sites, open houses, postcards to the neighbors and paid social media ads.

Ask how each piece reaches buyers who are looking in your area right now.

4. How often will I hear from you?

Agree on this before you sign. Silence is one of the hardest parts of selling a home. We send our sellers an update every week, with showings, feedback and what we see in the market.

5. What will it cost me, in total?

Ask for every cost in writing before you sign: the commission, any other fees, and what is included for that price. Then compare the whole picture, not one number.

6. What is the plan once my home is on the market?

Launch day is a start, not a finish. Ask how the agent will track showings and feedback, and when they will sit down with you to review the plan. We also offer a monthly price check against the market until the home sells.

7. Can I see your recent results and check your license?

Ask for recent sales near you and how long those homes were on the market. Here is ours: from October 2025 to September 2026, 11 of our 24 listings were on the market 10 days or fewer. Some took longer. Those are past results, not a promise for your home.

You can check any Virginia agent's license on the state's License Lookup, and ask which brokerage they work under. We work under RE/MAX Allegiance.

FAQ

Should I interview more than one agent?
That is up to you. Many sellers do. Ask each one the same questions so you can compare.

Does the agent with the lowest commission cost me the least?
Not always. Look at the whole picture: the price strategy, how the home is prepared, the marketing and the results.

When should I hire an agent?
Earlier is easier. Starting a few weeks before you want to list gives time to get the home ready.
