Ashton Heights History & Neighborhoods Nearby
Ashton C. Jones, a real estate agent, bought 61 acres here in 1919 and filed the Ashton Heights subdivision in 1921, on both sides of what was then Cathcart Road and is now North Pershing Drive. Other builders added blocks over the next 15 years. Trolley and commuter rail lines brought many of the first owners, who worked for the federal government in Washington.
In 2003 the neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Ashton Heights Historic District. Buyers who like Ashton Heights often look at Lyon Park just to the east, too. Which one fits is a matter of preference.

The homes are mostly single-family: 1920s and 1930s Craftsman bungalows, Colonial Revivals from the 1930s and 1940s, many of them expanded, and newer houses built where older ones stood. An original bungalow and a new custom house sell at very different prices.
