Buying a Home in Tara-Leeway Heights

The right home, at the right price, with your eyes open, from the first conversation to closing day.

Buying in Tara-Leeway Heights: Houses Near the Lee-Harrison Shops

Buying a home in Tara-Leeway Heights usually means a single-family house in ZIP code 22205, along or near North Harrison Street, with groceries and shops at the Lee-Harrison center on Langston Boulevard and the Westover shops a short trip south.

Most houses here are 1940s and 1950s brick bungalows and Colonials. Some are close to how they were built, many have been updated or expanded, and some are new. Whether you are moving up, buying your first house or downsizing, we help you figure out which kind fits your budget and how you live.

What This Fall Means for Tara-Leeway Heights Buyers

Fewer houses are being added to the market than condos. NVAR counted 5.7% more detached listings in its Northern Virginia region in September 2026 than a year earlier, compared with 49.7% more condos and townhouses. Bright MLS showed Arlington County at about 3.9 months of supply that month, up from 3.0.

Prices are still going up in Arlington. Bright MLS reported the county's median sale price for July through September 2026 at 11.1% above a year earlier. With more homes for sale overall, though, you may have time to compare a few houses and room to ask for repairs or help with closing costs.

Before you write an offer, we review recent sales of similar houses nearby with you, so the price you offer is based on what homes like it have really sold for.

What to Look at in a 1940s or 1950s House

Ask how old the roof, windows, furnace, air conditioning and water heater are, whether the electrical panel and wiring have been updated, and whether an addition or finished basement had permits. Look for signs of water in the basement, and read the lead-based paint disclosure that comes with homes built before 1978.

In a bungalow, check how the upstairs or attic space is finished and how comfortable it stays in summer and winter. In a newer house, ask for the permits and the builder's warranty.

A home inspection looks at the structure, roof, electrical, plumbing and systems. We can arrange it, or you can schedule it yourself, and we go through the report with you. If a house is not right for you, we will say so.

Buying and Selling at the Same Time

If you already own a home in Arlington and need to sell it to buy here, we plan both sides together: when to list, when to make offers, and what to do if the timing does not line up perfectly.

A client who bought and sold with us wrote on Zillow that they “wanted to sell our house in Arlington ONLY if we first could find another house to move into.” That kind of plan takes careful timing, and we work it out with you from the start.
