Living in Barcroft

Barcroft has a strong sense of itself. Its civic league meets in a 1908 community house that once served as the neighborhood's one-room school.
Barcroft also has room to get outside. Arlington Hall West Park sits inside the neighborhood, and the paved Four Mile Run Trail runs along the neighborhood, connecting to the W&OD Trail.

How The Mike Webb Team Serves Barcroft
Barcroft houses were built over many decades, by many hands. Starting in 1918, builder Walter O'Hara and his son Robert built several hundred homes here in a range of styles, and new homes have been added since. The Mike Webb Team has more than 34 years of experience reading those differences and pricing them for today's buyers.
When you sell, you should not have to manage the prep work yourself. The White Glove Home Sale Method™ covers painting, handyman repairs, caulking, staging, deep cleaning, carpet and window cleaning, power washing, landscaping, removal of unwanted items or furniture, and taking donations to the charity of your choice, at no additional cost to you. Here is how selling a Barcroft home works with us.
Micheal Lowney summed up what that feels like: “We only had to focus on packing and they handled the rest.” The Mike Webb Team is part of RE/MAX Allegiance.
Barcroft History & Neighborhoods Nearby
Barcroft owes its name to Dr. John Woolverton Barcroft (1817–1895), a physician and inventor who bought property on Columbia Pike and built a mill there. The first homes near the Pike went up in 1892 as the subdivision of Corbett, and in 1903 the area was subdivided again under the Barcroft name.
At the center of the neighborhood is the Barcroft Community House at 800 South Buchanan Street. According to Arlington County, it was put up as a community building for the Methodist Episcopal Church of Barcroft, but the School Board leased it instead, and the Barcroft School opened there in November 1908. The school moved to a new building on South Wakefield Street in 1925. According to Arlington County, it is believed to be the only remaining one-room wooden schoolhouse in Arlington. It became a local historic district in 1984 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
Buyers who like Barcroft often look nearby too. Across George Mason Drive is Alcova Heights, with its 13-acre park. Douglas Park shares the Four Mile Run and W&OD trails, and farther east are Arlington Heights and Penrose. Which one fits is a matter of preference.

The buyer is usually a first-time buyer or a move-up buyer. If you are trading up, see buying a bigger home in Barcroft.
