East Falls Church History & Neighborhoods Nearby

East Falls Church grew around 1900 as one of the early commuter suburbs of Washington, served by a railroad and trolley lines. Three train stations stood in turn on the west side of what is now Langston Boulevard, near North Fairfax Drive, on land that is now part of the W&OD Trail. Passenger trains stopped in 1951.

For years the area was the Arlington side of the town of Falls Church. After residents petitioned the courts, it officially became part of Arlington County on April 30, 1936. A stone that marked the boundary of the original District of Columbia, set during the 1791 survey that Benjamin Banneker worked on, still stands in East Falls Church Park.

Buyers who like East Falls Church often look at Westover and Highland Park-Overlee and Leeway Overlee too. Which one fits is a matter of preference.
